4Great quality juice!
By Yoga Nut
So, you must understand I am a bit of a juicing snob.
Meaning I have juiced pretty much daily for years, and have researched every juicer on the market.
I have owned three juicers in the past year, with this being one of them.
Here's my take on the other two, and then more in depth on the Kuvings.

Breville Juice Fountain: Nice easy juicer to use. Quick and easy, and allows for big pieces of fruit to be put down the chute, so less chopping. Clean-up is the easiest of the the three. Great intro juicer to get into the habit without a lot of work. Not so great on juicing veggies, and especially not great for greens like kale. Which is the main reason I decided to upgrade from the Breville because I juice greens daily. Perfect choice if you'll just be doing oranges, apples, etc. Not very versatile, but great at the basic fruits. It's a great all-round centrifugal juicer, and you can purchase for around $150-200.

Angel 5500: Amazing j uicer. My favorite by far. But, it comes at a hefty price tag of $900-1100. It is ALL stainless steel and built to last. It's unsurpassed juice quality, with very little waste/pulp. You will really make your money back in the end with more juice output and less pulp. It's fantastic for fruits and veggies, and does a tremendous job on greens, which is why I wanted it. The Angel is a masticating, dual-ager machine, which means it mashes and then juices the food. It works at low-temperature and slower speed than Breville so juice quality is higher and juice lasts longer before it oxidizes. I really can't say enough about this machine. I will admit clean-up takes about 2 minutes longer than with the Breville, but for me that's a trade-off I'm willing to take for better quality, more nutrients, and less waste.

So... to the product at hand the Kruvings NJE-358OU.

This is a great juicer for those who would like a masticating juicer with one auger. On e thing I really liked about the juicer was the fact that it really "pulled" the food into the feed tube. Where as with my Angel I sometimes I have to push it in. The feed tube on the Kuvings is smaller than the three juicers I'm comparing, so you will have to spend some time cutting up the fruits and veggies in order for them to fit in the tube. The Kuvings is almost all made of plastic, which isn't a big deal, I just wonder about durability over years of use.
The juice quality with the Kuvings is very high. Better than that of the Breville, but slightly less than the Angel. It's a great tasting "thick" juice, but no pulp in the juice.

I juiced my daily recipe with all three juicers:
2 apples
5-6 stalks celery
fresh ginger (1-3 inches)
1/2 peeled lemon
5-8 kale leaves

The Breville produced the least amount of juice and most pulp. The Kuving produced the medium amount of juice and pulp, while the Angel produced the mo st juice by about 1 1/2 cups. As far as pulp, the Angel produced only about 1/3 of the pulp of the Breville, and about 1/2 the pulp of the Kuvings.
Clean-up on the Kuvings was about the same as the Angel. In fact, it might have taken a tiny bit longer.
I'd say Breville clean-up is 3 minutes, Angel is 5 minutes, and Kuvings is 6 minutes.
The Kuving does also do fancy things like make baby food and pasta, which are options I won't ever use.
I would say the Kuvings is worth looking into at this price point, as well as the Omega.

HAPPY JUICING!!!

4Very versatile juicer for the money- and super quiet!
By Naomi Manygoats
I have had several centrifugal juicers over the years, and that type of juicer has limits, in particular, they are made mostly for fruit juices, not vegetables, and you simply cannot juice wheatgrass with one. When studying raw foods in the natural foods program I attended, we used several types of juicers, including the Champion and the Omega Vert juicer, both of which are masticating juicers. A masticating juicer has an augar-like gear that turns and squeezes the fiber of the produce through a screen. The advantage of a masticating juicer is that it does not disrupt the cellular structure of the produce very much, since it operates at a much slower speed than a centrifugal juicer. This eliminates oxidation of the juice, and preserves the most enzymes and nutrients in the food being juiced. It also makes it possible to juice things like carrots and wheatgrass. The auger is not sharp, so there are no sharp parts to cut your fingers on when you wash up.

I had n ot heard of the Kuvings brand before getting this juicer, but it is a brand that is worldwide, and has been making juicers and other products for healthier living since the 1970's. I pulled the NJE-3580U out of the box, rinsed the parts, and assembled it according to the instruction booklet. It was simple to assemble, and easy to understand. I made a mixture of wheatgrass, carrot, and apple juice. The pulp comes out very dry, just as I remember from the Champion juicer. However, the champion juicer made me want to leave the room since it was horribly loud, and this juicer was amazingly quiet. The juice was perfect- not pulpy, and not too thin either. I disassembled it without having to review the instructions, which means it was very easy, and easy to clean it up as well. It makes frozen ice creams that consist of purely frozen fruits, such as frozen bananas, which are healthy and taste great. You can also mince foods, make baby food, purees, sauces, and ground meat with thi s juicer.

Besides juicing, the Kuvings juicer does some things that I don't think any other juicer will do. For example, it will extrude pasta, and it is much simpler to make than using a hand crank pasta extruder, which usually requires two people, in order to roll the pasta into a sheet of increasingly thin size, feed the sheet in, crank it, and pull the pasta out once cut. The Kuvings gives you multiple pasta nozzles, so you can make angel hair pasta, spaghetti, and fettuccine.

The design of the juicer is very nice. It is compact when the attachments are off, and takes up a small amount of counter space, about as much as a two slice toaster. Nothing sticks out from it when the attachments are off. It takes up far less space than the Champion juicer, and will fit under most cabinets, something the Vert cannot do since it is so much taller. The feature I love the most is the sliding half-dome that slides over the part of the machine the attachments go onto. This keeps dust off of the machine. The parts, except for the auger which I think is made of heavy nylon, are plastic, with a smoky quartz tint to match the machine. They are very nice looking and lightweight, but it does seem like they might crack if dropped on the floor. Operation is simple, there is one switch that goes to on (forward), off, or reverse.

The only thing that I did not love was the instruction manual. While the instructions were actually quite good, it was skimpy in recipes. They have one brief recipe for pasta, then mention you can add other things like spinach, but gives no recipes. There are no instructions for grinding nuts, making baby food, or making rice cakes, which it has an attachment to make. There are a few juice recipes, and a few frozen dessert recipes, but not that many. With a new machine, it is nice to have a variety of recipes for the first few months until you get the hang of it. Also, instructions say to fit the parts to catch the juice and pulp in snugly, and these parts actually just sit under where the juice comes out, they so not snap in or anything.

All said, it is a great little machine for the money, and very versatile. I think I will experiment and see what all I can do with it, like perhaps making rice (gluten-free) pasta and such. I love the low noise level very much, it is not very 'zen' to have your juicer sound like a 747 about to take off!

5Quiet and easy to use
By Mike Wallace
I juice frequently, but this is my first slow juicer. I have a Breville Juice Fountain Elite and another centrifugal juicer. I have to say that I was really impressed with this juicer. It was packed well, with a lot of cardboard cushioning. In spite of this, the pulp container was cracked. I called the customer service number on the instruction/recipe book and the representative said they would ship me a new one right away. So, Kuvings customer service gets an A+ for the prompt courteous service.

The juicer itself is heavy and has a cool space age flip cover that flips to the back side when the juicer is in use and then can be flipped back when the juicer is not in use. This juicer was easy to disassemble and clean and put back together. The plastic parts just snap and screw into place, everything fit, and worked perfectly, and nothing had to be forced. My first juice was a kale, celery, lime, ginger, apple juice and it turned out perfectly.

I love t he health benefits of juicing, but when you insist on using organic produce the cost can add up, especially with a centrifugal juicer. With this slow juicer, I was able to get a lot more juice out of my produce, so I'll be able to juice more and spend less. I also really liked how quiet this machine was, and I was able to run stuff through fairly fast. The self feeding tube does kind of pull the produce down, so there wasn't a lot of forcing and effort to get things to run through it.

Update: I purchased a flat of wheat grass and this juicer does an amazing job juicing it. The juice is very clear and the pulp is dry. One tip I discovered while making wheat grass juice is to run a mandarin or small orange through at the end to get all of the wheat grass juice pushed through. The mandarin also makes the wheat grass juice sweeter and more palatable. I also made mandarin/orange juice to drink after the wheat grass and it was a great combo.

I also think this juicer is easier to clean than my Breville, just because the parts are smaller and I don't have water splashed all over the kitchen afterwards. So far this juicer is great and I will update after I try out the other attachments.
